King, NC (PSI)—On Tuesday, December 15, staff members of Pet Sitters International (PSI) delivered more than 200 pounds of cat and dog food to the Stokes County Animal Shelter.  The employees delivered donations collected through PSI’s Hungry Bowl™ Pet Food Drive—an effort to collect much-needed pet food for both the Stokes County Animal Shelter and Animal Rescue of Stokes County.

In total, more than 100 pounds of cat food and 400 pounds of dog food were collected and divided between the two organizations. Despite challenging economic times, this year’s totals far exceed the three-hundred pounds of pet food collected during last year’s drive.

“We are thrilled with the support of local businesses and the community’s participation in this year’s pet food drive,” said Patti Moran, PSI president. “The Stokes County Animal Shelter and Animal Rescue of Stokes County work diligently to place adoptable pets in forever homes and will make good use of these donations.”

Seven businesses across the county, including Walnut Cove Health and Rehabilitation, The Stokes News and the King locations of Lowe’s and Food Lion, served as collection drop-off locations for the Hungry Bowl™ Pet Food Drive.

“We were excited to participate in this pet food drive for the second year,” said Brandy Stultz who oversaw the collection of donations at the Walnut Cove Health and Rehabilitation Center. “Our residents love when pets visit the facility throughout the year, so we were happy for an opportunity to give back to local pets.”

Pampered Pooch Pet Salon, Danbury Public Library and TNT Supplies also served as drop-off locations.

The Hungry Bowl™ Pet Food Drive benefited more than just Stokes County pets.  After delivering donations to the Stokes County Animal Shelter last year and being touched by their dire need, PSI staffers decided to reach out to their nearly 8,000 association members to encourage them to host Hungry Bowl™ Pet Food Drives in their communities December 1-12 as well.

PSI members throughout the country have raised thousands of pounds of dog food for local shelters and pet rescue groups. As part of an ongoing effort to give back to the pet community, PSI plans to organize the Hungry Bowl™ Pet Food Drive annually.
