Pet Sitters International Offers Pet First Aid Training During National Pet First Aid Awareness Month
While April Fool’s Day marked the beginning of National Pet First-Aid Awareness Month, pet health and safety is no joking matter – particularly to the more than 71 million pet owners in the United States. Pet Sitters International, the world’s largest educational association for professional pet sitters and Forsyth Technical Community College are offering area pet owners and pet-care providers the opportunity to gain valuable pet first aid and CPR skills that could prove life saving should their pet ever experience an emergency.
The PetSaver™ Program, an 8-hour training course, will be held Saturday April 19, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., in Greene Hall on the Main Campus of Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem. Led by Thom Somes, founder of Pet Tech (http://www.pettech.net/), this program covers a variety of skill sets ranging from muzzling and restraining a pet to canine and feline CPR. The cost of the program is $125, which includes lunch.
“Training in pet first aid is a necessary skill for every responsible pet-care provider and owner,” said Patti Moran, president of Pet Sitters International. “We are pleased to offer local pet owners and pet-care professionals this opportunity to improve the care of their pets by gaining these valuable pet first aid skills.”
According to the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), 25 percent more pets would survive if just one pet first aid technique were applied prior to getting emergency veterinary care. The PetSaver™ Program equips participants with pet-saving techniques and shows participants how to perform a “Snout to Tail” assessment to detect signs of illness or determine a baseline for their pets’ health.
In addition to the PetSaver™ Program, a three-day course to become a certified Pet Tech Instructor will also be offered April 19-21. The cost of this training is $1,095. Additional information on both programs can be found at http://www.pettech.net/
Interested individuals are encouraged to contact Pet Sitters International directly at (336) 983-9222, ext. 321 or info@petsit.com to register.
