November 2008

Pet-care and pet-sitting industries stable despite economic slowdown.
While few industries are recession proof, the pet-sitting industry shows signs of stability.

Making your list and checking it twice…
The busy holiday season is fast approaching and we'd like to hear more about your holiday pet-sitting fees and surcharges. Survey results will be shared in the next e-News!

Show me the money!
Where and how do you generate most of your business revenue? If you want to improve your pet-sitting service and bottom line, it's important to understand your revenue streams, as well as the areas of your business that may be costing you money. What ZIP codes and types of service are generating most of your revenue? As you
plan for 2009,
it's important that you find out.

Say ahhhh!
Have you taken a good look at Fido's teeth lately? The American Veterinary Dental Society reports that 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats show signs of oral disease by age three. Do you know the
signs to watch for?

Was the tortoise victorious? Do you wanna iguana?
The herp article in the October e-News prompted several letters and many "cool" photos. Read PSI's Reptile Round Up and learn what pet sitters have to say (and show off!) about their reptilian friends.

Ruff Riding Cowgirl seeks Rugged, Durable BoyToy...
Do you come home to tattered tennis balls? Can your dog rip apart a rawhide bone and still find time for the sofa? If you are frustrated with replacing pet toys and cleaning up foam stuffing, you need advice from an
aggressive canine chewer.

PSI discontinues MyPetSitterCam.Com partnership
Earlier this year, PSI made the decision to discontinue its partnership with MyPetSitterCam.com. PSI goes to great lengths to select partners who provide valuable and competitive services and who also stand by their products. Unfortunately, this was not the case with CamNet Corporation. PSI apologizes for any problem or inconvenience members may have experienced with this service.

Just say NO!

We often receive calls from new and experienced pet sitters who have left an initial consultation with a potential client feeling uneasy. As pet sitters, it's important to follow your gut instinct. Whether you are uncomfortable with a seemingly aggressive pet or a potential client who seems to be making unreasonable demands, how do you know when it is time to just say no?

Picture Perfect
Take Your Dog To Work Day® isn't just a fun Friday, it also serves as a good cause by promoting local pet adoptions. Learn about this year's TYDTWD photo contest winner and how his entry helped the Tinton Falls Animal Care Center in Tinton Falls, NJ.

Why do independent pet-sitting business owners diversify?

Because it makes good business sense! In many cases, diversifying your business can provide desirable services to your clients and serve as an additional revenue stream during slow times. Find out if you are eligible to participate and join other members who are taking advantage of the
PSIStoreOnline Affiliate Program - an online pet product source that provides discounts to you and commissions on your client's purchases.

Howlin' ween

Words of Wisdom
"
Old dogs, like old shoes, are comfortable. They might be a bit out of shape and a little worn around the edges, but they fit well."
