Pet Products and Gifts

"I would like to share a great product with PSI members. The Litter-Lifter is a litter scoop and is incomparably better than anything else on the market. It cuts my litter scooping time in half and comes in the coolest colors. Try this and you'll never look back!"

-Margie Widmann-Hille, The Sitting Queen, El Sobrante, CA

"As my business has grown, I've tried to give gifts to each of my furry and feathered friends without spending more than $1.50 per item. Gift shopping for kitties has been a challenge, but I have managed to find a few things that have worked well for me:

  • Pawbreakers were a huge hit for me last year. Pawbreakers are edible catnip balls and cats just love them.
  • 'Cat nibblers' are another great gift. I grow rye and barley seeds in individual containers and attach a cute label to the side.
  • Catnip infused bubbles are also a fun cat gift!

"Last year I made over 350 dough ornaments that I personalized with my clients' pets names. It was very labor intensive, but the ornaments turned out great. (I had to start this process in January!) I love getting gifts for the pets each year. It is one of my favorite things to do."

-Elizabeth Anne Harms, Annie the Animal Nanny Inc., St Petersburg, FL

"In December I gave an inexpensive chew or play toy to my clients' pets for Christmas. I also sent a Christmas card to all of my clients - and included the pet names on the cards.  I had several people call to thank me and say that their pets 'loved getting a card.' I even booked some pet-sitting jobs from customers that I hadn't heard from in months.  It's always good to remind people that we are still here!"

Various Pet Sitting Tips

"Give your dog a knuckle bone from the butcher. It's less expensive than the pre-packaged bones and dogs love them. The added bonus is a white smile with healthy gums.

"In an effort to go 'green,' I use recycled newspaper as litter for cat boxes and rodent cages.

"I also suggest following up with clients and sending a client satisfaction survey after the holidays. New clients will appreciate this level of customer service and hopefully call again.

"My favorite pet product right now is the Feliway plug-in diffuser. It relaxes nervous kitties and helps keep them from clawing the furniture and with inappropriate urination. And you can't beat Kong toys for dogs or a regular cane fishing pole for cats!"

-Christie Joy, Treasured Pets LLC, Whitehouse, TX

"This suggestion came to me last night while doing my first overnight stay at a new client's house. I left the bathroom light on with the door partially closed so if I had to get up in the middle of the night, I would be able to find my way around. This made me wish I had packed a night light in my overnight bag.  Placing a few night lights around allows for easy navigation in new surroundings!"
-Donna Narducci, Roxie and Donnie's Pet Sitting Service, Atlanta, GA
