Most Unusual Client Requests - May 2009

"I have a client with a very spoiled parrot who loves to sing in the shower. The parrot also needs the 'extra humidity'  that showers offer.  However, the bird won't sing if he showers alone...so...you guessed it!  For an extra fee, I was recruited to shower at least twice a week with the famed 'Cyrano De 'Birdjerac.' It actually worked out quite well because we're in an area where there is water rationing!  My client has a very lovely, CLEAN home, and as luck would have it, Cyrano has a beautiful opera-like voice!  (Although I must admit I'd prefer a good old Beatles tune.) There's never a dull moment with pets!"

"I took care of four small dogs that had their very own room with little four-poster beds for them to sleep on. I had to change their sheets every day (pillow cases and all) and put their blankets in the dryer to warm them up before I 'tucked' each of the dogs into bed!

"The craziest thing beyond this request was that the dogs actually would snuggle under the covers for me! They stayed in bed (most of the time) when I left the house too!"

-Kim Panico, Home Comforts Pet Sitting Service LLC, Dublin, OH

"I met with a new customer who had several birds, including a blue and gold macaw, a rescued cockatoo and a very talkative Amazon parrot. When it came time to go over what the client wanted me to do, she sheepishly asked if I would mind making the birds peanut butter toast. I said I'd be happy to. She then asked if making peanut butter toast for her birds was the silliest request I ever had. I told her no. The two most unusual requests I've ever had was feeding lady bugs apple slices and bathing an iguana."

-Karen Commings, Pet Care Extraordinaire, Harrisburg, PA

“A client (who has five dogs) was going to be away during the birthday of one of her dogs. She asked that I sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the dog and then present him with a special treat. (The other dogs received treats as well.)

"I didn't think a thing of it - until I started singing to them and the dogs all sat still and just looked at me. Then I felt REALLY silly, but it was still fun!”
-Gina Putman, Gina's Pets at Home, Ellijay, GA
