Accreditation - Certification Program for Pet Sitters

PSI's Accreditation Program is the most comprehensive program of its kind. To become eligible you must be a member of PSI. If you are not a PSI member click here to join today. Check out the many benefits of PSI membership throughout the pages of our Web site.

The PSI Accreditation Program is an in-depth educational coursework that has been tailored exclusively for pet sitters. The curriculum includes topics on Pet Care, Health & Nutrition, Additional Services and Business & Office Procedures (37 informative topics in all). The coursework was developed with input from some of the most knowledgeable professionals in the pet-care industry.

Through PSI's Accreditation Program, you can:

* Increase your knowledge, skills and competitive edge.
* Earn formal recognition for your commitment to excellence in pet sitting.
Raise awareness among your customers about what it takes to be a qualified professional pet sitter.

* Accommodate your busy schedule with self-paced home-study courses designed expressly for professional pet sitters.

With Accreditation, you receive:

*Certification as a PSI Accredited Pet Sitter with official credentials to display in your office and Client Presentation Book.
* The PSI Accredited Pet Sitter logo to use in your business cards, brochures and other promotional items.
* A 10 percent discount on Pet-Sitter Liability Insurance premiums through PSI.
* A 10 percent discount off registration fees for PSI's annual Quest for Excellence convention.

The Accreditation coursework covers all of the basic areas of knowledge recommended for professional pet sitters. PSI members who pass this coursework will receive certification as PSI Accredited Pet Sitters. Once members sign up for the program, they will have six months to complete the coursework and pass the final exam. The exam is an "Open Book Test," administered by an approved proctor. Pet sitters enrolled in the program must submit a Proctor Nomination Form for PSI approval.

As a PSI member, you get all this for $299 - much lower than comparable correspondence courses in other fields.

The on-going goal of Accreditation is continuous education and professionl growth.  After obtaining the PSI Accredited Pet Sitter designation, a PSI member will be certified for three years. The recertification process will allow pet sitters to select areas of specialization within each of the four major coursework categories. Thirty Approved Credit Units (ACUs) must be obtained before the expiration date of the Accreditation cycle. Options for earning recertification credits include online classes, DVD training, conferences and meetings, pet safety training, etc.
