Heather Uptegrove, Affectionate Pet Nanny & Taxi, Avondale, AZ
"Before becoming a professional pet sitter, I had fulfilled my life long dream of becoming a police officer. Then in September 2003 I was involved in a duty-related vehicle collision. I was injured to the point where I had to medically retire in 2004.
"I went through a year of painful physical therapy and some days the only things that made me smile were my dogs and husband. I kept thinking 'there has got to be something I can do with pets.' My animals weren't judgmental because I didn't walk right and never stared at me! They always met me with unconditional love and were happy to see me. As a result,
Affectionate Pet Nanny and Taxi was born in August 2005.
"Since starting my business, I have met several fantastic 'pet kids' and their people. Their warmth and love has made each day a day to look forward to. I have been a bit overwhelmed at times about the success of my business. I never anticipated it would take off like it did. But I can say I am much less stressed than I was before and my contacts were never so happy to see me as they are now! The advantage of being a pet sitter is that I can choose who my clients are, and where and when I work! I have met some truly good friends through my business and I LOVE BEING A PET SITTER!"
