Members shared the following tips on how pet sitters can better attend to personal appearance so as to make a good first impression at client interviews:
- I note quickly when entering the home if folks remove their shoes at the door. If it appears so, I offer to do the same. People are impressed that you noticed.
- We always schedule consultation between rounds, so that we may shower and change first. If a last minute need arises, we explain to the new client that we will have to meet them "in uniform."
- A lint brush, sticky roller, change of shoes, fresh shirt with business name and logo, brush, hairspray, lip gloss and mirror kept together allows me to freshen up before going to meet new customers.
- I treated myself to makeover and glamour photo. One of the photos I did in a black blazer, and I keep it on file in case the newspaper wants a photo. I felt so great and it was fun!
- All of our pet sitters wear a work smock in our company color, royal blue, embroidered with our company name and logo. The smock protects clothing from pet hair and dirt and can be easily removed when running errands or going on client interviews.
