PSI Early Education Program

If you have attended one of PSI's Quest for Excellence Conventions, you are likely familiar with PSI's Early Education Program.  Each year, proceeds from the annual charity auction are used to purchase children's books from the ASPCA.

PSI members who donate or purchase a charity auction item have the opportunity to provide the name of a local elementary school. A collection of age-appropriate pet and pet-care books are donated to the school in the pet sitter's name.

A book label is placed inside each book with the name and business name of the pet sitter. It's a wonderful opportunity to add to the libraries at local schools, as well as to promote your business each time a child checks out one of the books--and takes it home to their parents.

PSI encourages you to take this a step further, however. Consider establishing a guest reader program at a local elementary school or volunteering to come speak to the students.

Whether you are visiting a school or want to have items on hand at festivals or fairs for children that may be in attendance, coloring or activities sheets are a great option.

Below we've included the letter PSI sent to local elementary schools about the book donation and to offer to serve as a guest reader. We've also included the press release that was sent to local media. Feel free to use these resources as templates for drafting your own letters and press release if you decide to initiate a local guest reader or school volunteering program for your pet-sitting service.
