Pet Sitters International and Adopt-a-Pet.com partner to promote pet adoption during the dog days of summer

Visitors to Takeyourdog.com can now search for adoptable, local pets online

King, NC—June 1, 2011—Since Village Green, a developer and manager of luxury apartments in Detroit, Mich., began participating in Pet Sitters International’s Take Your Dog To Work Day® (TYDTWDay®), eight dogs have been adopted from the Animal Placement Bureau (APB) by Village Green employees. The company’s 2010 TYDTWDay event raised more than $5,550 to benefit APB and support their pet rescue and adoption efforts. Last year, NationLink Wireless in Nashville, Tenn., celebrated TYDTWDay and used their event to collect donations for the Nashville Humane Society. Companies across the U.S. and abroad will join this effort to promote pet adoption again this year on Friday, June 24, for the thirteenth annual celebration of TYDTWDay.

More than just a fun day in the office with Fido, TYDTWDay, created by PSI in 1999, serves a greater purpose—to celebrate the great companions dogs make and encourage their adoptions form local shelters, rescues and humane societies. This year, PSI has partnered with Adopt-a-Pet.com to further TYDTWDay’s mission of helping homeless pets find a forever home.

"Every single person can help homeless pets and we're all a part of the solution,” said Adopt-a-Pet.com’s Director of Partnerships and Promotions, Katya Friedman. “That's the beautiful thing - together, we can make sure every pet ends up in a happy home. By working with one another, we can make a difference to promote pet adoption and help many more lives get saved."

Visitors to the official TYDTWDay Web site, www.takeyourdog.com, can now search for a local adoptable pet by entering their ZIP code and breed preference in the Adopt-a-Pet.com search widget located throughout the site. The site also features tips for selecting the right adoptable pet and how to introduce your new pets to other pets or children in the home.

Pet lovers interested in learning more about supporting local pet adoption efforts year-round are encouraged to visit the “Lend a Helping Paw” tab of Adopt-a-Pet.com’s Web site, www.adoptapet.com, to complete a volunteer profile and be matched with local volunteer opportunities.

To learn more about TYDTWDay, visit www.takeyourdog.com or contact takeyourdog@petsit.com. A free downloadable action pack is available for companies interested in participating in the event.
