PSI’s Take Your Dog To Work Day® returns for its 27th year—all for a good cause

Event creator Pet Sitters International encourages businesses worldwide to participate in this fun event on Friday, June 20 to celebrate dogs and promote their adoption.

KING, N.C. (June 5, 2025) — Work will go to the dogs again on Friday, June 20, as companies across the globe participate in Pet Sitters International’s 27th annual Take Your Dog To Work Day® (TYDTWDay), and with puppy intake rates rising at animal shelters, the event creator is reminding companies to participate with a purpose.

Pet Sitters International (PSI), the world’s leading educational organization for professional pet sitters and dog walkers, established TYDTWDay in 1999 to celebrate dogs and promote their adoption from local shelters, rescue groups and humane societies. Since that time, PSI has encouraged employers across the United States—and around the world—to open their doors to employees’ dogs for one fun summer Friday each year, all for a good cause.

“We believe that through this fun event, non-pet owners will be able to witness the special bond their co-workers have with their pets firsthand and will be encouraged to adopt a new best friend of their own,” said PSI Founder & CEO Patti Moran. “Plus, there are many ways companies can support local animal shelters and rescue groups through their celebrations.”

“Planning an event for your company offers more than just a fun day for employees,” Moran added. “You could also be changing a pet’s life!”

PSI encourages businesses and pet parents to visit takeyourdog.com to access a free 2025 TYDTWDay Event Toolkit that includes a variety of celebration tips and ideas—as well as pet adoption facts, a sample "dogs at work" policy, employee participation form templates, and more downloadable resources.

An estimated 300 businesses participated in PSI’s first TYDTWDay, which Moran created as a way to give back to the community from which PSI’s members earn their living. While companies are not required to register in order to participate, thousands of social-media posts annually testify to the growing popularity and enduring appeal of the event.

Companies whose offices are closed on Fridays or want to celebrate other types of pets can also take part in PSI’s other fun summer events—Take Your Cat To Work Day® (Monday, June 16 this year) and Take Your Pet To Work Week® (June 16-20, 2025).

There are many ways businesses can celebrate TYDTWDay, from planning a silent auction to benefit a local animal shelter to holding a pet and owner look-alike contest for added fun. PSI encourages companies with remote workers to host virtual celebrations, allowing employees to show off their pets and still support shelters and rescue groups. More celebration ideas are shared on the PSI website.

“PSI also encourages participating businesses to partner with local professional pet sitters and dog walkers to learn more about pet-care options for their employees on the days that their pets can’t come to work,” said PSI President Beth Stultz-Hairston. “We believe every pet should be a wanted pet—with a professional pet sitter to care for them when pet parents are away from home.”
