New Pet-Sitting Data Highlights Strong Career Outlook, Revenue Growth
Results from Pet Sitters International’s 2026 State of the Industry Survey indicate continued growth in pet-sitter revenue and sustained career appeal across a broad range of age groups.

KING, N.C. (June 16, 2026) — New data from Pet Sitters International (PSI) reveals that the average annual revenue for professional pet sitters continues to rise, and a majority of pet sitters expect revenues to continue to grow.
PSI, the world’s leading educational association for professional pet-sitting and dog-walking businesses, today released a sneak peek of its 2026 State of the Industry Survey. Conducted every two years, the association’s survey of PSI members is the most comprehensive survey of its kind for the professional pet-sitting industry.
According to the 2026 survey, the average gross revenue for U.S. pet sitters in 2025 was $112,423, compared to $100,537 in 2023—a 12% increase. The average gross revenue for Canadian pet sitters in 2025 was $166,118 (CAD), compared to $100,764 in 2023.
Additionally, 68% of respondents indicated they expect their business revenues to grow in the coming year.
“Professional pet sitting continues to offer a rewarding and financially viable career path, with pet-sitter revenue growing each year,” said PSI CEO & Owner Adam Foster. “These latest survey findings reinforce the profession’s momentum and bright future.”

The survey results also highlighted the accessibility of the career. The average age of members when starting their business was 42, but the youngest age noted was 18 and the oldest was 74.
"These survey results reflect the notable diversity of PSI's membership, which includes pet-loving entrepreneurs at every stage of life—from young adults launching their careers and professionals pursuing a new path to retirees who want to remain active and engaged,” said PSI President Beth Stultz-Hairston. “While their backgrounds and experiences vary, they share a common commitment to education, professionalism, and high standards of care.”
“That dedication not only helps them provide exceptional service to pets and their owners. It also supports the growth of their businesses and helps elevate the professional pet-care industry,” added Stultz-Hairston.
The association plans to release additional survey results and trends later this year.
PSI conducted its survey of active PSI members exclusively online from January 20, 2026, to March 11, 2026. 24% percent of the nearly 4,000 pet sitters contacted completed the survey.
