Lifetime of animal care experience +20 yrs working as Certified Veterinary Technician
Trusted, reliable, caring, and knowledgeable animal care taker with Veterinary Medical experience (CVT).
While all my friends were babysitting at a young age I was pet/farm sitting. This gave me lots of experience caring for and understanding animal behavior's and training. I was also involved in horse and swine 4-H and FFA growing up which added to my love of animals and caring for them in humane and ethical ways.
I own and train my own pets; 2 horses (mustang and Shetland), 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 goats and run a farm. I believe in knowing where my families food comes from and how it is raised so I raise our own meat chickens and pork for my family and friends. I also sell duck/chicken eggs.
I enjoy studying equine behavior and training principles in gentling and natural horsemanship.
I am a Dog 4-H leader teaching dog education and help with dog training for Showmanship and Obedience. I am a BSA scout leader for my son's Troop and teach merit badges in dog, horse, vet med, first aid, plus many more.
I am a member of the Pet Evacuation Team here in Deschutes Co, am Technical Large Animal Rescue trained , and have taken courses on animal neglect for work in both of these groups.
Although I am home with my aging mother and teen boys, not actively working in the field of Vet Med, I still try to volunteer my time as a CVT at the spay/neuter clinics when I am available.
Availability of services are regulated to East Bend, Alfalfa, Powell Butte areas as I need to stay close to home.
Costs start at $22/trip for the 1st hour of care within 15 miles of my home. Costs may go up if you live outside the 10 mile range or extra care taking is needed or takes longer than an hour. I can not stay over nights but am available to do 2-3 trips a day.
I don't believe in nickel and diming a client so when you hire me all care will be provided to make sure the animals needs met. That includes cleaning up after them, potty breaks, exercise and mental health games. I can follow directions including making up the specialized diets. The added bonus is I am a CVT so I can give medications and/or treatments and will be performing daily health checks. I will be asking lots of questions about normal behaviors and medical/emotional problems to watch out for along with property safety evaluations. The last thing I want is a beloved pet hurt or stressed to illness. It is important your pets are comfortable with me so I will come by before the job starts to get to know your animals and go over care and feeding routines. Many dogs can be stand offish, scared, or protective. It's important that I make friends with them for their comfort level.
