PSI releases 2019 Pet-Sitting Industry Forecast

The association’s report offers detailed insight into the professional pet-sitting industry, examining the potential for growth, the challenges of growing competition and projected industry trends.

KING, N.C. (December 4, 2018) — Pet Sitters International (PSI) has released its 2019 Pet-Sitting Industry Forecast. This newly-released report highlights the growth potential for professional pet-care businesses as pet ownership and pet spending remain high in the United States and abroad, and it also examines how increased competition will influence industry trends as professional pet sitters seek to differentiate themselves from less qualified pet-care providers.

PSI anticipates that increasing competition in the pet-care marketplace, particularly from “hobbyists” on tech platforms (hobbyists are individuals who may offer pet care, but do not operate legitimate, professional businesses), will influence the way professional pet sitters build and market their businesses in the coming year. This will include a growing focus on credentials and certification, websites with strong local SEO, and personalized services and superior customer care.

“Those currently in or now entering the professional pet-sitting industry face more competition—from both fellow professionals and hobbyists,” explained Patti J. Moran, author of Pet Sitting for Profit and founder of PSI. “Fortunately, professional pet sitters also have access to more tools and resources than ever before, and PSI believes education is the key to helping them gain a competitive advantage in their local markets.”

For a limited time, PSI is offering the 2019 Pet-Sitting Industry Forecast free of charge on the PSI website.

First published in 2012, the forecast utilizes data from PSI’s State of the Industry Survey, current market research, the association’s collective intellectual capital, and knowledge from PSI’s more than 20-year history and nearly 6,000 member businesses.

“As the largest association for professional pet sitters, PSI has a unique opportunity to offer unparalleled insight into this niche industry,” explained Moran. “The forecast is created as a benefit for our members, but is also shared with the public to educate the pet industry at large, pet owners and prospective pet sitters about the value of professional pet-care services and the industry’s encouraging growth potential.”

The 2019 Pet-Sitting Industry Forecast shares proprietary industry data, including the average annual revenue for professional pet sitters. The report also includes demographic information used to develop data-driven profiles for the typical professional pet sitter and typical professional pet-sitting client.
