About My Business

“Customized Care and Consistency” has always been the focus of Pets ‘n Plants since 2002. Being a big operation was never the goal, so you won’t find me at a desk scheduling other people. I’m in it for the personal interaction with the animals, the bond I can create with them and the relationship and trust I build with my clients. I believe that seeing the same face, hearing the same voice, creating a ritual of the way to play and give attention that makes each pet happy, is the best way to relieve the separation anxiety that animals experience in their owners absence. And people miss their pets as well! When I learned a new client’s children had never been away from their Dogs, I surprised them with a video or pictures of their Pups every day. The whole family loved it!

I also understand that animals require different care at different stages and situations in life. From moving that Puppy Pad closer to the door, reinforcing “House Rules” with younger Dogs, teaching them social manners on a walk, seeing that they get all the exercise they need in mid-life, to slipping a towel beneath their hips to help an elderly Dog rise to get moving in the morning, medications along the way, and then the final loving goodbye, I’ve done it all for my own Black Lab “Dewey”. He became diabetic at 6, blind by 8, arthritic by 9 and had to kiss him goodbye at 11. I’m experienced with giving insulin shots, administering other meds, and know the patience and extra time and gentleness it takes in caring for aging, special needs pets - “Old Friends Deserve the Best!”

I always had an affinity with Cats and in addition to having my own 2 Calicos, I was a “Volunteer Foster Mom” for 9 Lives Rescue, 2001 - 2018, having hundreds of cats and kittens pass through my heart and home. Vigilant care and observations from newborns to mature cats, learning personalities and working to socialize them for greatest opportunity for adoption, was part of daily life for me. And, while Dogs and Cats are my forte, I have cared for Rabbits, Ferrets, Chinchillas, Guinea Pigs, Gerbils, Mice, Rats, Fish, Frogs, small Lizards, and Birds to the size of Cockatiels. I also love to see things grow – flowers, vegetables, and I have 35 houseplants! (That’s the “Plants” part of Pets ‘n Plants, so your Plant Family will also be in good hands!)

Vacation Times are the bulk of my business as I also Substitute Teach part time in District 11. When schools are closed is the time most families plan their trips. However, because I have the freedom to choose when I want to teach, I have the flexibility to accommodate my clients no matter when they need my services. Background checks are required to obtain and renew a Teaching License, which along with my Bond and Insurance provide additional security to my clients. I have associations with other Professional Pet Sitters so my clients can always be taken care of in the event of an emergency.

I have been a member of Pet Sitters International since 2006. They promote the standard of professionalism I want in a Pet Sitter for my own “Furry Family”. It’s an excellent credential to look for when selecting yours. We all have our specialties, attributes and experience. If you like my philosophy and have questions please call, or, if you have an immediate need, let’s meet!
