Take Your Dog To Work Day creator urges pet lovers to donate to Pets for Patriots

Event creator Pet Sitters International has pledged a $5,000 donation and encourages Take Your Dog To Work Day participants to make a donation through the campaign’s fundraising site by June 23.

KING, N.C. (May 15, 2017) — Since 1999, the annual Take Your Dog To Work Day® (TYDTWDay®) event and campaign has encouraged employers across the United States—and around the globe—to open their doors to employees’ dogs for one fun summer Friday to celebrate the great companions dogs make and promote their adoptions. For nearly two decades, large, small and mid-sized companies have answered the call, celebrating dogs at work and often also raising money for local pet-rescue organizations and animal shelters.

This year, TYDTWDay creator Pet Sitters International (PSI) is using its 19th annual event on Friday, June 23, to raise awareness and funds for Pets for Patriots. The 501(c)3 charitable organization helps veterans and military members adopt the most overlooked shelter pets, offering them a second chance at life through adoption. Pets for Patriots is the only nationally operating nonprofit that is open to veterans at all career stages and from all armed forces—from WWII veterans to those currently in service.

“While TYDTWDay offers a fun opportunity to have dogs at work, its purpose since the inaugural celebration has always been to encourage pet adoptions,” explained Beth Stultz, PSI vice-president and TYDTWDay spokesperson. “Pets for Patriots helps give adult, special needs and large-breed dogs a second chance through their military-adoption programs, and PSI is thrilled to be able to use our international campaign to raise awareness of such a worthy cause.”

PSI kicked off its 2017 TYDTWDay campaign in March by pledging $1 for every pet photo uploaded to its “Calling All Pets” photo page and will be making a $5,000 donation to Pets for Patriots.

PSI encourages all TYDTWDay participants and supporters to join this effort by making a tax-deductible donation to Pets for Patriots by TYDTWDay on Friday, June 23. Online donations can be made through the event website at takeyourdog.com, and directly through a special TYDTWDay donation page on the Pets for Patriots website.

"PSI and Pets for Patriots share a common mission of supporting the most vulnerable among us," said Beth Zimmerman, executive director and chief executive officer of Pets for Patriots. "We appreciate PSI’s generosity and are excited to further our mission through involvement with this year’s Take Your Dog To Work Day campaign."
