What does it mean for a business to be a Pet Sitters International member?

If your pet sitter or dog walker has shared that they are a Pet Sitters International member, you may be wondering “what exactly does that mean?”

Founded in 1994 by Patti J. Moran, Pet Sitters International (PSI) is the world’s largest educational association for professional pet-sitting and dog-walking business owners. Its membership is comprised of pet-care professionals from the United States, Canada, and 20+ other countries.

PSI has been the most trusted name in professional pet sitting for three decades.  PSI members have access to the best business tools and educational resources in the industry, including pet-care and business trainings, Pet Sitter’s World magazine—the #1 magazine for the professional pet-care industry, monthly toolkits, among others.

Additionally, the association keeps member businesses informed on the latest pet-care best practices, pet health and behavior information, tips to ensure the safety of your pets and home—and much more.

By joining PSI, pet-care businesses display their commitment to:

  • Professionalism
  • Continuing education
  • Ethical business practices

All members must agree to PSI’s Code of Conduct and Recommended Quality Standards for Excellence in Pet Sitting.

We encourage you to ask your pet sitter or dog walker about the PSI member benefits they take advantage of and how these benefits enable them to offer the best possible care to your beloved pets.

You can also download PSI’s Pet Sitter Interview Checklist for questions you should ask any potential pet sitter or dog walker.

Please note: PSI is an educational organization and does not manage, inspect, or police member businesses. To confirm your pet sitter is a current member of PSI, please contact info@petsit.com.
